Every country we’ve visited has something different to offer, we’ve learned and grown in different ways while we’ve been there, and each one is unique in its own way. I know it sounds silly, but it’s true.

Of course, every trip is different. Some people are looking for nightlife and parties, so their favorite countries are in Europe. Others may be looking for the best museums or the best bird watching. For us, these are the things we think of when we think about what our favorite countries are:
Dariece and I are foodies. We are not food, we are food. Does this count? In my opinion.
In many places we go, the first thing we do is look for food tours. We believe that food is an important way to get deeper into the culture, family and traditions of a country, so we value good food over many other things that affect travel. For us, there are many good countries to visit where the food is very good.
Maybe it’s because we’re Canadian (love), or maybe it’s just that we’re easygoing, but we like to go places where we’re welcome. A warm smile can go a long way, and the places we return to are mostly for two things – good food and local.
Places For Travelers To Visit In 2023
Isn’t that what traveling is all about? We love culture shock, but more than that, we love culture shock. One of the best places to travel is to learn how different people live around the world. Therefore, countries similar to our country (such as the USA) do not appear in this list.
It’s not that they aren’t the best countries to visit, but they don’t give us the opportunity to learn and understand what comes from countries that have been removed from our generation.
There’s nothing like getting lost in the old medina or wandering the promenade while gazing at 1000-year-old palaces and mosques. Historical architecture always amazes.
From Canada, where we have little history, it is amazing for us to visit the churches that predated the Europeans to discover our country, and to look in awe at the pyramids that lived thousands of years before Christ.

If you are not a wine person, this should not be a criterion for you to choose your favorite countries, but for us… We love wine! Some of our favorite adventures along the way are wineries, wine bars, or just over a nice glass of wine. Everything is better with a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon.
If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know that some of our favorite activities are walking and hiking. From our incredible 8-day trek through the Mongolian Steppe and our 10-day trek around the O Circuit in Chile, to our jungle adventure tour of Ciudad Perdida in Colombia, we never run out of hiking challenges.
Countries with great hikes, multi-day trips and other amazing outdoor experiences will always make our list. The cool thing about this is that we come from one of the most off-the-beaten-track places in the country, yet we haven’t really hiked in Canada. Go figure.

Greece has everything. Beautiful Mediterranean beaches, friendly people, amazing food, diverse scenery, hiking and great architecture and history. With over 220 inhabited islands, you can return to Greece for a lifetime and there is always plenty to discover.
Greece runs on love. From the sunny days of Santorini and the white sandy beaches of Crete to the exotic treasures of Chios and Lesvos, this is a place where you can enjoy life to the fullest. What did the Greeks do!

Hiring a speed boat and discovering the hidden corners of Corfu was one of the highlights of our trip. Motorcycling around Santorini, driving a car around Crete and staying on the island of Zakynthos are all memories we want to bring back to Greece. Not to mention, it is one of the most expensive European countries to visit.
When we think of somewhere to live as Digital Nomads, Greece is always up there (if the wifi is better…).
With mild winters and hot, humid summers, it’s a beach vacation destination with wineries, history, art and culture. Try to find a traveler who does not like to explore Greece and the Greek Islands.
Kefalonia: This island is one of the best places to visit in Greece. There are many things to do in Kefalonia and you can spend a week here without getting bored. We ended our 5 day stay in Kefalonia and really wished we had more time. From some of Greece’s most spectacular beaches and amazing restaurants to historic sites, Kefalonia should be on any Greek travel itinerary – up there with the popular Santorini and Crete.

Corfu: This is where Dariece and I spent our 10th birthday, so it holds a special place in our hearts. But it’s also the island where we rented a boat for the day and explored hidden cabins and beaches. Corfu has a lot to offer. It’s a wonderful and romantic city, with some dramatic views and amazing accommodation options.
Santorini: A trip to Greece is not complete without visiting the beautiful buildings of Oia or watching the sunset from the cliffs with a glass of wine. Santorini is probably the most romantic place in Greece (if not all of Europe) despite its crowds.
Crete: For hiking, sightseeing, history, food and amazing architecture, it’s really hard to beat Crete. The largest island in Greece, you will have plenty of time to explore. We spent 10 days here driving around the island, although it was a bit of a rush. It is better to rent a car to get around.
Zakynthos: Zakynthos (aka Zante) is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece. We rented a cozy little house here in a family home and spent 10 days exploring the island by boat. With beautiful beaches, amazing views and Greek and Greek cuisine. The world, Zante has always inspired us. There are so many things to do in Zakynthos, including a visit to the Ferry Port, that one could spend more than 2 weeks here without getting bored.
