The good news for American travelers looking for luxury is that there are more high-end hotels around the world than ever before. The bad news is that not all expensive, shiny new hotels are luxury properties.
Best Hospitality Hotels In The World
There has been a huge global hospitality construction boom over the past decade, in established hotel markets such as New York, London and Paris, as well as emerging destinations such as Morocco, China and South East Asia. As chains expand in number and geography, maintaining their quality standards becomes a challenge, and only the best international luxury hotel brands have managed to ensure the consistency of excellence that luxury travelers expect. Four Seasons of Toronto is a great example of a brand that has put so much time over the years into developing very detailed standards, practices and training that it has been able to grow quite quickly while maintaining its reputation for excellence.
The Best New Hotels In The World
At the same time, the growth of luxury travel has led to the global expansion of once regional brands less known to American travelers. For example, almost thirty years ago, boutique operator Aman Resorts & Hotels started on the Thai resort island of Phuket. The name has only become familiar to American travelers in the last decade or so. Today Aman operates in around 20 countries, with two American destinations, and more in the Caribbean, Europe and Africa. Similarly, after a century of dominance in India, Taj Hotels went global, with major hotels in the US and Europe.
So what makes these ten brands so good? There are a number of factors. Firstly there is consistency of quality, service and experience across all their properties. They’re not cookie-cutter, but they all have a commonality across the brand that customers can trust, from Peninsula’s high-touch, very full-service, city-only hotel model to Belmond’s focus on historically significant one-of-a-kinds and naturally. -kind buildings. and settings.
Secondly, these are all brands that are big enough and broad enough to matter to the frequent traveller. There are some very good micro-chains or groups with a handful of hotels, but for luxury travelers to pay attention to them in the first place, they need to be accessible. For example, Leela India is a great brand but does not operate outside the country, severely limiting the number of travelers who will consider it.
Third, while consistently great, each of these brands has one or more incredible core type features. Three new uber-luxury Ritz-Carlton resorts spring to mind, as well as the Four Seasons George V in Paris, The Peninsula Hong Kong, Fairmont’s Savoy in London, the innovative Park Hyatt hotel in Tokyo which was a showcase on for the film Lost in Translation and the model for a new generation of high-rise urban properties, and the outstanding Las Ventanas al Paraiso de Rosewood in Los Cabos, the best beach resort in North America.
Shangri La Hotels & Resorts
Finally, these brands never sleep at the switch and are constantly improving. Among the eighteen new 5-star rankings awarded to existing hotels worldwide this year, Rosewood won three, Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton and Mandarin won two each, and Park Hyatt added one to its portfolio.
Of course, there are more than 10 great luxury brands in the world, and several others should be singled out for honorable mention, including Oberoi, Banyan Tree, St. manage,
Just named its Udaivilas the best hotel in the world. But Oberoi, while truly excellent, is still primarily a brand for travelers to India, and has not come to the Western Hemisphere at all, although it is starting to operate more hotels in destinations of interest to American travelers, such as Bali, Mauritius, and throughout the Middle East. . Banyan Tree launched as an entire villa concept, but later moved into a more traditional city hotel. Its all-villa resorts such as Mexico’s Mayakaoba offer some of the best physical accommodation products in the industry. St. Regis has great properties, but has grown very quickly with some incompatibility. Pan Pacific is not yet big enough to take its place on the global stage for American travelers, with only nine hotels and resorts, many of them in highly saturated luxury markets. Shangri La is a big global brand with many excellent properties, but they rarely dominate any individual markets, with great hotels in places like Paris, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney, but in almost all cases they wouldn’t the first. choice However, these brands are well established with enough marquee hotels and resorts to be remembered by luxury travelers.

The Burj Al Arab has often been described as the world’s first “seven star hotel” or “the most luxurious hotel in the world” since opening its doors in 1999. And although the brand does not describe itself as such , it’s easy to see why others do.
Built on an artificial island off the coast of Dubai’s white sand beaches, the Burj Al Arab is an all-suite hotel with 28 double floors and 202 luxury duplexes ranging from 1,830 to 8,396 square feet. Each suite offers a range of unique luxuries, including a wide selection of complimentary Hermes toiletries, a ‘cushion menu’ with 17 options, and a ‘bath menu’ with a butler on hand to explain the different options.

While there are many luxury properties to choose from on the Las Vegas Strip, The Palms is known for its iconic high-end atmosphere. The penthouse suites at The Palms have been home to some of the most high-profile parties Las Vegas has ever seen, and are designed with entertainment in mind. Take the two-story Sky Villa, for example.
