Looking for more ways to make your listing stand out? Our friends at Minted have special programs for beautiful places like yours! Learn more here. What’s on your travel bucket list? If you’re like most people, the more you travel, the more places you add to your bucket list. So when the editors of the Big 7 Travel website announced their list of the world’s 50 best destinations, we stopped and started ticking boxes.
The site polled its 1.5 million strong social audience to determine the best spots on the list from around the world. According to Sarah Clayton-Lea, head of content at Big 7 Travel, this is the first time the site has compiled this list. “To-list travel is a trend that has come up repeatedly in past surveys when we’ve asked our readers what type of travel content they enjoy the most,” says Clayton-Lea. “So curiosity gets the better of us and we want to know what destinations people are dreaming of for 2019/2020.”
The results of the top 50 destinations in the world include some of the most beautiful places on earth. “White sandy beaches are still a must-see for many people, with vibrant cities also appearing on many people’s bucket lists,” says Clayton-Lea. Countries with beautiful natural landscapes and world-renowned landmarks top the list: 22% of destinations on the list have white-sand beaches, while 52% are iconic cities.
In the study, Big 7 Travel found that people are also more likely to add a destination to their bucket list if they’ve seen it on social media, with 33% of people looking for holiday destinations on their Instagram feed. Instagram for travel inspiration, it makes sense that cities with colorful neighborhoods (like Bo Kaap in Cape Town) do well,” says Clayton-Lea.
The 33 Best Places To Do Business Around The World
Bali topped the list of the world’s 50 most popular destinations, but there were also some unexpected choices. “The top 10 list has many dream destinations to look forward to, but there are a few surprises on the list: Bhutan’s Paro Valley, for example, or Congo’s Virunga National Park,” says Clayton-Lea. “I think this shows a great willingness to go off the grid, and I can only assume that social media (and Netflix, in the case of Virunga!) is responsible for spreading the word about these amazing places.”
Interesting fact revealed in this research: Most people have, on average, a wish list of just 11 places, with the hope of visiting seven of these locations in their lifetime. No matter how many places are on your wish list, this ranking will have you dreaming of places near and far. Read on to find out the top 50 world destinations on the list and what Big 7 Travel has to say about each one.
