Best Travel Jobs To Make Money Traveling The World
When I first started my journey as a photographer in 2010, I knew photography would be a great way to see the world. But at the time, I had no idea how the experiences of the next few years would drastically change my life. . I soon realized without a doubt that I wanted to travel the world full time and spend as much time as possible exploring and photographing this beautiful planet.
Over the past 3 years, my wife Naomi and I have been 100% ground-free. A more elegant, parent-friendly way of expressing “homelessness.” In 2012 we sold nearly all of our assets, packed the rest into a 5×5-foot closet, and started photographing the world full-time. We travel an average of 180,000 miles one-way a year, living in hotels and rental apartments on our various projects, and we live off our photography, workshops, and photography tours alone.
During my travels to over 50 countries, I visit certain places over and over again. The list below is not exhaustive. No listing. But I think these are 20 places every photographer and photography enthusiast should add to their lifetime to-do list and visit.
Rome is one of my favorite photo spots on the planet. The Eternal City is not only a camera delight, but is filled with fascinating historical architecture and cultural heritage, making it the perfect destination for photographers and travelers alike. While there are so many great places to take pictures, spending years in Rome seems like it will barely experience its potential. It is also the starting point for the Italian Dream Photo Tour.

Santorini is an island in the Southern Aegean Sea, often considered one of the most romantic places in the world. The town of Oia pictured below boasts one of the most beautiful sunsets on the planet. Every afternoon, hundreds of people gather to watch the sun set below the horizon. Once set, the entire crowd explodes with cheers and applause.
There is something magical about Santorini’s quality of light. It is difficult to explain exactly, but it is the light that artists dream of. You will have to check it yourself.
Since the first Lord of the Rings movie, New Zealand has grown in popularity among the travel community. My advice to photographers visiting Middle-earth is to plan as much time there as possible. The island may seem small on the map, but the more you drive and explore it, the more you will begin to notice the enormous inspiration and photo opportunities at your fingertips.
If you want to look at the stars and take pictures of the Milky Way, head to Lake Tekapo. The entire area is protected as part of the Dark Sky Reserve. On the shore of the lake near the small village is the Church of the Good Shepherd. It’s in such a perfect location, you’d swear it was made for photographers.

Angkor Wat’s Reflection is definitely one of my favorites when it comes to famous sunrise spots. As the colors begin to dance on the towers of the ancient temple, the tiredness of early awakening is replaced by sheer magic and joy.
With that in your bag, explore and photograph the Angkor temple complex and other amazing temples around Siem Reap. I’ve been leading charity photography tours in Cambodia since 2012 and the best time to visit is between November and February when I can experience cooler temperatures. Get to the temple early so you can experience the temple on your own.
As a kid watching The Adventures of Indiana Jones, I was fascinated by the ancient architecture in Petra, Jordan. There are very few moving places in the world that you can experience with your own eyes. Even more surprising is that they light up the treasury several times a week for an event called “Night by Petra”.
Don’t forget the tripod. You’ll want to bring a tripod with you to take some really great night shots of this event.

I know I’m talking about somewhere in Italy, but I can’t help myself. I have never seen a country with so many wonderful places to visit and photograph. Tuscany is no exception. I dare say it’s actually one of the most beautiful sights in the world. To be honest, maybe it’s a good food and red wine story.
One of my biggest dreams is to leave Earth and explore worlds far, far away, but I’m sure it won’t happen in my lifetime. Fortunately, there are so many strange and alien places on our planet that they feel like they are standing on another planet.
In the summer, this caldera is filled with swirling land fog, and if you get to the observatory early, you can be alone under the stars for a spectacular view.
I think it’s time to introduce modern architecture here. Singapore is the perfect place to start!
Places Every Photographer Should Visit Before They Die
Personally, I love photographing Singapore and you will find that many of the great photo opportunities are clustered around Marina Bay and the small central business district. At night, the city comes alive with beautiful lights and regular laser light shows. I shot the landscapes from various angles, but my favorite viewpoint is definitely the view of the Marina Bay Sands from the area around Merlion.
Every season in Japan is distinctly different and there are countless photo options, but I would say spring is my favorite time. Cherry blossoms in full bloom are not only great photo opportunities, but have been cherished by the Japanese people for hundreds of years.
In their country, cherry blossoms represent the fragility of life and serve as a reminder that life can be overwhelmingly beautiful, but disastrously short. Since the flowering period is only a few days, you can catch the flowers in full bloom in a special way. It is a time of great celebration for the Japanese, and being there at this time is a wonderful life experience.
When you think of Hallstatt, often referred to as the Pearl of Austria, the words “picture perfect” come to mind. It’s rare to find a place where it’s this easy to photograph in a town that’s a great place to spend time. There are no photographically wrong answers here, and this little town is exquisite no matter what time of day you visit.

When I first visited Dubai a few years ago, I didn’t really appreciate it until I saw the city through a lens. Landscape photographers should note that you won’t find many natural subjects here outside of the surrounding desert. Architectural photographers, on the other hand, will see Dubai as a composition playground with almost limitless possibilities for finding unique architecture and stunning views to capture.
One of the best and worst decisions of my life as a photographer was visiting Iceland. It was the right decision as it is the most fascinating place in the world to take landscape photos. However, now that I am so desperately addicted to visiting it again and again, it was one of the worst decisions ever made!
No matter how much I go there, I don’t think I’ll ever be satisfied. I’m already thinking about doing a photography tour there in October.
Meteora means “hanging in the air,” a fitting name for the site of six ancient monasteries perched atop massive sandstone towers. From the frame, the whole space looks like it’s straight out of a fairy tale, and the light is gorgeous at both sunrise and sunset.

Meteora, one of the first places I visited when I started my career as a travel photographer, will always be important to me.
