We love this series, which quickly becomes addictive after the first few episodes. The series follows Jack Whitehall as he embarks on the journey of a lifetime with his father, Michael. The two embark on a journey through Southeast Asia to participate in a series of adventures, misadventures and escapades with two very different perspectives. We thought series one and two were fun and the best so far, while series 3 was good but felt a bit more forced and scripted.
The dynamic duo of Si King and Dave Myers take us on a culinary journey through the Mediterranean. These Geordie favorite chefs begin their Mediterranean adventure on the Italian mainland in search of the country’s most authentic flavours. They also teach us how the region was influenced by the ancient Greeks. During the series they will also visit Sardinia, Corsica, France and Spain. Food is a great starting point for learning more about a culture and we really like how they stick to the distinct taste and flavor of each country they visit.
Food is about people and culture, something that Netflix’s Street Food series captures beautifully. The show is filmed from a realistic perspective, focusing on ordinary people making food on the street. It’s inspiring and the individual stories have an impact. We like it because it’s different from the classic travel show with a westerner watching the locals from the outside.
Dark Tourist offers a very unique twist on the travel show genre, taking the viewer to morbid and dark places. We found the show interesting and funny. Part of the plot is the presenter, David Farrier, who is surprised by the local customs. This makes him seem more of a jerk abroad at times. Our only criticism is that sometimes it’s hard to tell if he’s showing genuine disrespect for the locals or if he’s just trying to be funny and acting like a stereotypical white guy traveling abroad.
