Afternoon tea, trendy bars and restaurants, chic bedrooms and a spa with a pool provide respite between city excursions.
Just two blocks south of Central Park and two blocks north of MoMA, this quirky boutique bolthole from the Firmdale group (which also includes New York’s Crosby Street Hotel) has a location that’s hard to beat. Firmdale founder Kit Kemp, an interior designer, and her husband Tim believe hotels should be “a celebration of art and design”, and as such, The Whitby is a riot of rich, tactile fabrics, intricately printed wallpaper, cutlery hung like portraits. , and giant murals and sculptures that wouldn’t look out of place in a gallery. A screening room with 130 seats, a Reading Room with 2,500 books, a gym and individually designed rooms make for a truly sensory stay.
Wellness brand Equinox’s premiere hotel occupies 15 floors of the tallest building in Hudson Yards, a giant city-within-town development along Manhattan’s Westside. Just as brands have pushed boundaries in fitness, David Rockwell and his team are pushing boundaries in design, so expect sexy sanctuaries of resin, patterned metal, stone, leather, and Zaha Hadid sofas. The pièce de résistance is a statue of Jaume Plensa. There is a 60,000 square foot exercise room and guests get access to classes such as, pool, and full-service spa. For captivating sunsets paired with great food and drinks, head to Electric Lemon’s 8,000 square foot terrace. The rooms are sleek but luxurious.

Best Hotel Lobbies With Free Wi Fi In New York City
Andaz 5th Avenue at the Hyatt, formerly the location of Tommy Hilfiger’s headquarters, is an excellent base for exploring Midtown Manhattan and escaping to the quieter parts of New York. It’s based across the street from the New York Public Library and down the block from Bryant Park, an oasis in the city (plus you’ll also have easy access to more than a dozen subway lines). Given the brand’s heritage and build, expect a design-centric approach with interesting textures (black stone, sleek leather, plush velvet) and minimalist rooms. There is an informal restaurant cum bar in the basement as well as a 24-hour fitness centre, but the best perk is the free wine hour (6pm-8pm) each night in the lobby.
Park Hyatt shares this address with One57, one of the city’s tallest and most talked about residences on West 57th across from Carnegie Hall. It’s located in the middle of Midtown fever and is two blocks from Central Park; You can reach MoMA, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center and Times Square in 10 minutes or less. Expect stellar service, pin-drop serene rooms (among the city’s largest), a luxurious spa and modern yet inviting interiors created by Toronto and NYC-based Yabu Pushelberg. When it comes to dining, plenty of big-city vibes and vibe fills The Living Room, a lovely space against the backdrop of 57th Street windows where plates like tuna tartar and cacio e pepe with black truffles tempt.
John Jacob Astor IV strove to create “the best hotel in the world” when he opened The St. Regis over a century ago. Today, this luxury Beaux-Arts icon, in the middle of Midtown and four blocks from Central Park, still aims to offer the very best in service and facilities, with fun and well-trained staff ensuring every visitor receives first-class treatment. Butlers – included for all guests regardless of room category – are available to fetch drinks, help with unpacking/packing, ironing clothes (two free per guest per stay), shining shoes and more. And the Bentley House Car remains available for drop-off within a 10-block radius. Otherwise Fifth Avenue, MoMA and Rockefeller Center are just a short walk away.
This landmark hotel in the middle of the Fifth Avenue shopping district opened as the short-lived Gotham Hotel in 1905 but closed due to bankruptcy in 1908. After several failures over the years, the grand dame of architecture became New York’s The Peninsula in 1988, although most much of Hotel Gotham’s character remains. But while the interiors are classic, they don’t have the style you’d expect. Still, there’s a level of old-world luxury that shouldn’t be overlooked, and even the smallest rooms are large by New York standards. The food and beverage offerings also shine, with two restaurants and a chic rooftop bar and lounge area providing stunning views of the skyline.
