So when the editors of the Big 7 Travel website announced a list of the top 50 bucket list destinations in the world, we stopped our tracks and started checking the boxes.
The website surveyed a 1.5 million-strong social media audience to identify the best bucket lists from around the world. According to Sarah Clayton-Lea, head of content for Big 7 Travel, this is the first time the site has compiled this list. “Bucket list travel was a recurring theme in previous research when they asked our students what type of travel content they liked to use,” said Clayton-Lea. “So, our curiosity got the better of us and we wanted to know what places people are dreaming about in 2019/2020.”
The results of the top 50 bucket list in the world include the most beautiful places in the world. “White sand beaches are still a must-visit for many people, and vibrant cities also feature on many people’s lists,” says Clayton-Lea. Countries with beautiful natural scenery and world-famous places came out on top: 22% of the places on the list have white sandy beaches, while 52% are cities with the brand.
In this research, Big 7 Travel found that people are more likely to add a destination to their bucket list if they see it on social media, with 33 percent of people researching a vacation on their Instagram feed.” More than one-third of our readers say Instagram is a travel inspiration, and it makes sense that cities with colorful neighborhoods (such as Cape Town’s Bo Kaap) make the cut, says Clayton-Lea.
