As the Covid-19 situation stabilizes across the country, the central government on Thursday decided to issue revised guidelines for international arrivals in India, scrapping the mandatory seven-day home quarantine.

Mumbai, Dec 22 () — India will start randomly testing 2% of international travelers arriving at its airports for COVID-19, the country’s Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told Parliament on Thursday, as the country ramps up surveillance for new coronavirus variants.
“The global pandemic is not over yet.. the virus is changing its face from time to time,” Mandavia said in Parliament on Thursday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold a meeting with top officials on Thursday to review the situation of Covid-19 in the country.
“In view of the upcoming festive season and New Year, states are advised to be aware of the importance of hand hygiene and masks,” Mandaviya said.

“The continuing threat of increased cases of COVID-19 over the past few days and the identification of the Variant of Concern (VOC) ‘Omicron’, suggesting an increase in transmissibility, necessitates more vigilance in implementing public health measures to contain the spread. of the epidemic. Enhanced monitoring of international travelers is required,” said an order issued by Municipal Commissioner IS Chahal.
According to the guidelines, passengers who show positive symptoms at the airport will be admitted to Seven Hills Hospital. But if the patients prefer to be admitted to a private hospital, they will be shifted to Bombay Hospital or Breach Kandy Hospital.
“Asymptomatic Covid positive passengers who cannot pay can be shifted to BKC and Kanjurmarg jumbo centers and those who can pay can stay in the list of hotels given by BMC,” said a BMC official.
Samples of positive patients will be sent for genome sequencing. The BMC official said the guidelines were revised to conduct more effective checks on the transmission of Covid-19.
