Macro Singapore Airlines to operate more flights from India The airline will add 10 flights a week by the end of March.

Capitalizing on the upcoming holiday season, Singapore Airlines is all set to increase its flights from India soon. The airline, which currently operates around 95 flights from India, aims to operate 104 flights by the end of March this year.

“We will add 10 additional flights per week until the end of March. We will be flying one additional flight from Mumbai, bringing the number of flights to 18 per week. Apart from Mumbai, we will also increase our flight frequency from Coimbatore,” said David Lim, Singapore Airlines General Manager India Operations.

However, he noted that the airline will withdraw the additional flight from Mumbai at the end of the peak season. “From our experience last year, we saw an increase in demand during the summer, but we did not have additional flights. Demand varies from season to season. For example, during the holiday season, we see an increase in passengers when families travel, but during the off-peak periods, the same decreases, hence the regression,” he added.

Longest Flights In The World

Singapore continues to be among the top five international destinations for Indian travelers, according to the Ministry of Tourism Statistics. The same Singapore Tourism Board has also ranked India as the fourth largest destination for foreign tourists. The increase in air travelers from India has also prompted the airline to change aircraft on some routes, but Lim did not elaborate.

The airline currently operates from more than 11 cities and may add more cities in the coming months. “India is an important market for us. And we hope to fly a few of them on our India routes in the future, as the new Boeing 787-10 is the first airline in the world.

Singapore Airlines is expected to take delivery of the Boeing 787-10, the newest member of the Dreamliner family, by the end of March this year. The airline has ordered a total of 49 Boeing 787-10s and is expected to take delivery of at least 10 by the end of this year. The new variant of the aircraft, also known as the Dreamliner, is the longest and can accommodate 330 passengers in a two-class configuration. But its range is lower than the other two Dreamliner variants, the 787-8 and 787-9.

Lim acknowledged that India is an important market, but added that commercial viability must be considered before launching new routes. “We don’t want to fly a certain route and suddenly stop our operations after a year or two. We are a responsible employer and starting in new cities means hiring people. Therefore, first of all, we need to determine the stability factor,” he notes.
