Best Places To Visit In The World For New Year

After more than a decade as a budget traveler, I’ve had the privilege of visiting dozens of budget-friendly countries that make cheap travel as easy as possible.

These destinations offer cheap accommodation, cheap food and plenty of activities and excursions to enjoy without breaking the bank.

Here’s my list of the best cheap travel destinations so you can get inspired and plan your next affordable trip:

Thailand is where it all started for me, so it has a special place in my heart. Here I decided to quit my job and travel the world. I live there. I like it there. Thailand is amazing.

With decades of tourism, Thailand is the heart of backpacking in Southeast Asia, and thanks to cheap accommodation, cheap street food (which can be found for less than $1 USD!), you can spend anywhere from $25 to $35 a day locally. get buses and many cheap and free attractions. If you spend all your time on the island and in expensive accommodation, expect to pay around 60 USD per day. However, even with affordable prices, Thailand is still one of the cheapest destinations in the world and should not be missed!

Want to explore ancient ruins, explore forests, hike, and eat delicious food with fewer tourists? Visit the small countries of Central America – think El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala. Here you’ll find most budget hotels around $15-$30 per night, food for less than $5, most bus tours around the same price, and beer for a dollar.

Belize, Panama, Costa Rica – these are expensive destinations by regional standards (but still very affordable). If you travel to these Central American countries, you can earn 40-50 dollars a day as a tourist or spend 100 dollars a day and live in luxury. Your money goes a long way in this part of the world. And with so many countries to choose from, it’s easy to jump in and see a lot without breaking the bank.

While you could include all of Southeast Asia on this list, Cambodia is one of my favorite countries in the region—it’s affordable, beautiful, and the locals are incredibly friendly. You can get a private air-conditioned room for US$25, street food for US$2-5, and transportation around the country for US$20-25. If you spend around $50 a day, you’re living large.

Cambodia is cheaper than the famous Thailand, but just as beautiful and full of the most beautiful people in the world. Plus, it’s home to the incredible Angkor Wat (while expensive to see, well worth the money!).

Best Places In Greece To Visit This Year

The Balkans is located in the southeast of Europe and is the cheapest region in Europe. Consisting of several countries and often visited by tourists, this is a remote area that is both very accessible and great value. While places like Dubrovnik have seen an influx of tourists (thanks to the cruise ships that dock there), much of the region is ripe for adventure travel. There’s cheap wine, incredible hiking and nature, stunning beaches, great food and wild nightlife. This is the best kept secret in Europe.

You can earn up to $30 a day – a fraction of what you’d pay in Western Europe. A week’s worth of groceries is only $25, while beer costs about $2.

And while the area was once dangerous, the situation has improved dramatically over the past decade. There are many hiking trails and tourism is growing. This is one of the least explored areas in Europe – but for a long time, so get there before the crowds and prices skyrocket.

China has fascinated travelers since the crossing of the Silk Road in 1275. While China’s days of being a super cheap destination are over, it remains a budget destination and one of the cheapest in Asia, but with a caveat. You need to get out of the big cities. Of course, cities are still cheap. Accommodation costs less than US$20, meals cost between US$2-5 per meal and local transport within cities is less than US$1.

However, the country gets cheaper as you go off-track and inland. Here you will find the best deals and travel deals! China is still one of the best places in the world, and with its sheer size (it’s the 3rd largest country by land area), there’s plenty to see and do!

Despite always being a cheap country, the Indian rupee is usually valued at 39 rupees per US dollar. Now, you get 82 rupees per dollar – that’s about 50% more money to travel. Unless you’re booking a five-star resort and eating only Western food, you’ll be hard-pressed to spend $50 a day. You can save around $30 USD by staying in budget accommodation, taking second class trains and avoiding western food. And if you want to shop, you can live on $60 a day. Even iconic sights like the Taj Mahal – a wonder of the world – are very affordable (just US$13 to enter).

India is an affordable backpacker destination with a rich cultural history, delicious food, helpful and curious locals, great regional diversity, great tea and lots of things to do. This is a huge place that is best explored in one big trip or in several smaller parts. In any case, don’t miss India.

Georgia has everything I need in a destination: it’s cheap, has great food and wine, offers hiking and mountain scenery, and not too many tourists. I loved it immediately and wish I had visited sooner (I actually extended my stay because I loved it so much!).

Top 10 Places To Visit In Brazil

Located in the Caucasus, Georgia has been at the crossroads of cultures for centuries, but it’s not that popular. Tbilisi is a city full of activity, while the rest of the country offers adventure travel with a rugged and remote feel.

You can also get everything here as budget travelers spend only 25-30 USD per day. A beer costs around $2, food is around $25-30 for the week, and most museums and historical sites only cost $2-3.

As far as it seems, Georgia is one of the next big centers. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Not all euro countries are created equal, and Portugal is one of the region’s bargains and one of my favorites. I fell in love with this country for the first time. How can it not be cheap with beautiful beaches, wine country, amazing coastal mountains, great food, fun people and historic cities.

Portugal has become much more popular and crowded in recent years (it has a growing nomadic and digital scene), and Lisbon is becoming more expensive as people move in and drive up prices. Anyway, this is a great place! However, once you get out of Lisbon, prices are relatively cheap compared to the rest of Western Europe – and you’ll also see fewer tourists. If you’re a budget traveler, expect to make $50-$60 a day.

Although beautiful in the summer, if you’re looking for an inexpensive place to spend your European winter, Portugal is one of your best options.

They spend a lot of time there. And I was shocked. Mexico City is a foodie’s paradise, Oaxaca has tons of charm (and endless flows of mezcal!), and the Yucatan is perfect for road trips and cenote exploration. And because it’s so close to the US, it’s not only cheap (beer only 1-2 USD, groceries for a week around 25 USD, and here you can get by for less than 50 USD a day) , but it is also cheap. – double win!

Although there are some areas that are not so safe to explore, most of the country is for you to enjoy. Whatever your interests – beaches, parties, food, history, nature – there’s a corner of the country you can enjoy without breaking the bank. I also run tours here if you want to travel with a group.
