Believe it or not, the weather can get cold in Las Vegas, but not as cold in the Northeast. But if you’re from SoCal, you might want to pack several layers.

If you’re going to be mostly indoors on the Strip, visit any time of year as the temperature doesn’t matter.

After economic downturns tied to the Great Recession and the COVID-19 pandemic, Las Vegas is welcoming a boom in tourism and new developments. Millions of visitors come to the city and they need a place to stay. So look out for these new properties that will start taking bookings in the next couple of years.
The first Las Vegas hotel built in partnership with Airbnb is under construction near Decatur Boulevard and Russell Road, west of the Strip. The venue is designed to take advantage of its proximity to the Allegiant Stadium, a seven-minute drive away. The resort has more than 300 rooms spread over 5 floors. No word on gaming, restaurants or a swimming pool, but space on the first floor is reserved for retail. Renderings reveal a sleek, modern design, similar to a luxury apartment complex with three central courtyard areas. The project is being developed by AHC Global Holdings, who hope to bring the concept to Japan and other locations around the world.
Best Tourist Attractions In Las Vegas
Caesars Entertainment is rebranding the Bally’s Horseshoe property, offering a premium upgrade to a hotel with an already excellent mid-Strip location. The property is attracting renewed attention from casino customers and will be the new home of the World Series of Poker in 2022. You’ll also see design updates and the addition of new restaurants like M.Y. Asia by celebrity chef Martin Yan and Jack Pinions Steak (a nod to the original Horseshoe in Vegas, built downtown where Pinions now stands). Aracde (a collection of vintage and contemporary video games) replaces the sportsbook, although you can still place bets in the new betting window. Once the renovation is complete, the hotel will fully transition to the Horseshoe name by the end of 2022.
Station Casinos is moving ahead with its first new hotel and casino project in 16 years. Construction is underway on the property near Durango and 215 in late 2023. Expect vibrant contemporary design with 200 rooms and suites, 40 electric car charging stations, dining concepts, meeting and conference space, and a pool complex. and an event lawn with trees, walkways and other outdoor spaces. Durango is the first major casino in the Rhodes Ranch/Spring Valley area, reflecting the dramatic residential growth in the Southwest Valley.
After the sale of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino to Virgin Hotels, the brand’s only presence in Las Vegas is a casual cafe on the Strip. That changes now that Hard Rock International has acquired the rights to the Mirage, an iconic property that ushered in the era of the mega-resort in Las Vegas. Few details have been released (or even an exact name or a projected opening date), but it’s clear that at least some of the hotel will be demolished, making way for a dramatic guitar-shaped exterior to ascend the Strip skyline. According to official renderings, it appears that the original hotel tower and casino atrium will remain. The fate of current attractions, such as a dolphin exhibit, a Beatles-themed Cirque du Soleil show and an erupting volcano outside the main entrance, is up in the air. Regardless, expect extensive renovations and, at the very least, updated dining options.
It’s been a while since a new development popped up on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip, which already includes Mandalay Bay, the Luxor and the MGM Grand. That’s changing with the arrival of a 20-story Dream Hotel under construction near the Bally High Golf Club and the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign. It is also within walking distance to Allegiant Stadium. The resort will have more than 500 rooms, a casino, boutique nightclub, theater, restaurants (including 24-hour dinner), meeting space and a rooftop pool with a table club. Dream is set to open in 2024.
Mirage Closing, Caesars Flops: 2022’s Top Las Vegas Strip Stories
Video games are big business these days, and now the hospitality industry is getting in on the act. Atari is teaming up its iconic brand with GSD Group to open a series of gaming-themed hotels in at least eight U.S. cities. Hotels are promising to incorporate virtual reality and augmented reality concepts, and some will have on-site arenas and sports studios. The first two Atari hotels are slated to open in Phoenix and Las Vegas, though little has been said about progress since late 2020. No details, including a date or location for the Las Vegas hotel, have been released. It will be one of the highest performing assets in the portfolio. Atari is known for creating classic video games such as Pong, Asteroids, and Centipede.
Forget slot machines. The Majestic Las Vegas is a non-gaming luxury hotel. It is slated to open in 2024. The 45-story tower is being built on the site of the old Clarion, which razed several years ago, offering a location a stone’s throw from sprawling Las Vegas. Convention Center. The hotel will have 720 rooms and 35 corporate ski suites that will be overflowing from trade show events. In a break from the typical Vegas layout, the Majestic will feature a courtyard with six freestanding restaurants located in a circle. If it proves successful (and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t), the Majestic could inspire future Las Vegas hotels—less focused on casinos and more focused on luxury and outdoor spaces. The groundbreaking was originally set for 2020, but has been delayed by at least two years.
The 67-story Fontainebleau has long been the most spectacular sight on the Strip. The hotel was nearly finished when the Great Recession halted its grand opening — and went bankrupt in 2009. The property was sold a few times, and at one point was renamed The True in partnership with Marriott International. However, things changed again and with a planned opening in late 2023, the property was once again called Fontainebleau. The good news is that most of the hotel is already built. However, it is a large tower with 3,700 rooms with a 550,000 square foot convention center on two levels with pools, nightlife, restaurants, a spa and about 35 luxury retail components. In other words, it’s a big investment. Fontainebleau Development (which made the original Miami hotel a success) has teamed up with Koch Real Estate Investments to make it happen. As a sign of progress, the “FB” logo was added to the exterior of the tower.
Something old is new again. After being rebranded SLS and renovated in 2014, the North Strip property returned to its old name, Sahara. The decision came after the resort was sold to the Merulo Group, which converted the property, once known as the MGM Grand in Reno, into the impressive Grand Sierra Resort. Founder Alex Merulo committed $100 million to the project, which has already featured upgraded hotel rooms and casino space along with new restaurants like Chickie’s and Pete’s, the Noodle.
