But there are many other things to do in the Philippines that make it a great place to visit; Including meeting friendly locals, eating great food, drinking cheap wine and discovering natural waterfalls.
There are (LOT) more, but we’re not here to talk about how much I love the Philippines.
Instead, we’re here to talk about the best places to visit in the Philippines and which islands you should consider adding to your Philippines itinerary.
Well, after spending 4 weeks exploring many islands, I narrowed down my personal Philippines bucket list to these 7 destinations.

I left a few stops that I don’t think were filled; And by visiting each of these 7 Philippine destinations, you’ll have plenty of chances to see all the country’s best sights and show your love for this nation made up of more than 7,000 islands.
So, in reverse order, here are what I believe are the 7 best places to visit in the Philippines this year….
Based on our experience backpacking the Philippines, it seems that, although Port Barton is very up and coming, it is still one of the most undiscovered beautiful places in the Philippines.
Despite being just a few hours south of El Nido, it has remained a relatively unknown destination for years.

I’m not sure why it has become so popular all of a sudden, maybe new roads have been built recently to make it more accessible.
However, there are new resorts, and homestays are being built every month to cope with the sudden increase in tourists.
They recently received only 24 hours of electricity at the end of 2018, although the WiFi is still far from stable (even by Philippine standards!).
Here, you will find a quaint little town, filled with mostly small wooden houses and a lovely beach area; Perfect for swimming, relaxing and enjoying the sunset.

Port Barton is perfectly located, close to sandbars, small islands and coral reefs, meaning it offers fantastic day trips.
What we love about Port Barton compared to other places in Palawan is how relatively less busy it is and how pristine the reefs are.
Just be aware that as of May 2019, they still don’t have ATMs in Port Barton and few places accept cards, so you’ll need to carry plenty of cash.
As Port Barton is still very much up and coming, new accommodation is constantly being built and you will find many new homes and resorts to stay at each month.

Additionally, Airbnb and Booking.com are good places to start your search for accommodation in Port Barton.
Although Badian is small, it is one of the best cities to visit in the Philippines and is located close to some of the best things to see and do in Cebu.
These are some of the best falls anywhere in the Philippines and are truly Instagram-worthy with their pure blue pool at the base.
However, throughout the region you will find other spectacular waterfalls and the most popular tours here are the canyoneering tours where the guide takes you further down through the waterfalls and allows you to climb and jump on a number of them. become

The second best reason to visit Badian is to go to nearby Moalboal where you can participate
For some reason it is here, just off the coast, that hundreds of thousands of sardines are gathered in huge pods.
All you need is a snorkel and fins and you can swim a dozen meters and swim among these huge shoals of sardines.
Most tourists stay in Molbol, which is more developed than the Badian region and has more options.

However, what makes Badian beautiful is that it is very less crowded and you are very close to the Kawasan Falls, which you should reach nice and early.
There are few other options for accommodation nearby and these guys had clean rooms, great wifi and great food!
Of course, if you are looking for a lively area and a chance to meet a lot of people, then Moalbol will be a good call.
El Nido has long been a popular place to visit in the Philippines, perhaps the most popular tourist destination in the Philippines.

You have the opportunity to travel deep into the sea, discover snorkel points, wide canyons and truly breathtaking surroundings.
At the port, there are literally dozens of ships that go out every day and the tours are still relatively cheap.
There are really many great things to do in El Nido, including visiting Nakpan Beach, considered by many to be the best beach in Asia.

The only issue I had with El Nido is that there doesn’t seem to be much to take care of the coral, much less than Port Barton or Coron.
They wisely allow their anchors to drift with the coral, and every day dozens of boats do this continuously, you can see that in many points, the coral is all but dead near the shore.
We stayed at 2 places in El Nido, and as we left it late to choose accommodation, we were very limited in choice.
They had fast wifi (fast enough to stream the latest season of Game of Thrones), really friendly staff and nice rooms.

El Nido has long been one of the most popular places to visit in the Philippines so there are plenty of accommodations to choose from.
Siquijor is the furthest south of these places to visit in the Philippines and is a place you really cannot miss!
Which is perfect, because it gives you enough time to slow down, relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches.

Most people who visit go for snorkeling and diving from the beach, however, the best attraction in Siquijor is the Cumbogahai Falls.
These are now my favorite waterfalls from anywhere in the world, and are a series of beautiful milky blue pools, respectively.
Each one has amazing waterfalls, but what makes Kambogahai so special is that the locals have built bungee ropes into them!
There are 2 large swings in the main pool, and I had hours of fun doing flips and tricks on them.

It is basically a big playground and you will also see dozens of local children playing there every day.
On the island, you will also find some other beautiful waterfalls, although if you visit in the dry season (like we did) most of them will be dry!
Another of my favorite things to do in Siquijor is to dive into the ocean from the rock platforms at Loganson Falls.
Again, we were very happy with where we stayed in Siquijor and the AMK Travelers Center was well located, offering great rooms and with very friendly owners.

We met an Italian guy when we stayed there for a few months and he was looking for land to build his home.
Maybe it’s because we stayed in Pauline House shoes (more on that below), but I really love Corone.
It is home to a number of beautiful snorkeling spots and lakes, with nearby Kyangan Lake believed to be the cleanest and clearest in the world.
In the middle of the day, some of these places are very busy, so it’s best to go on a tour that leaves early and allows you to escape the hordes (again, more on that below).

Again, you can enjoy a fresh BBQ dinner on a pristine beach and there are endless chances to swim and enjoy the beauty of Coron.
Simply put, nowhere will ever have a chance to compare, because Pauline House shoes are completely unique and one of a kind.
They are the only place that has the legal right to offer accommodation in the waters near Coron Island, as the island and the surrounding waters are owned by the indigenous tribes that occupy it.
Here, you have the opportunity to completely escape the crowds and stay in a paradise-like home, complete with your own private snorkeling, paddle boarding and kayaking opportunities.

Also, it’s perfectly located near many of the best things to do in Coron, so you get to all the busy spots before the tourists.
It also helps that they can offer tours at least 2 hours before Coron City.
