Since then, the cities I visited have become some of my favorite places on the entire continent. There is something wonderful about getting off the beaten path and going somewhere new. Traveling to cities is scary and not fun. And that’s why I’m here to share with you my favorite cities in Eastern Europe to help you book your trip!

Many moons ago (well maybe just 7 years give or take), the city of Budapest was one of Europe’s best kept secrets and indeed one of its most underrated cities. These days, Budapest has become a must-see destination for travelers looking to travel East from Central European countries like Germany, Austria and Slovenia, especially if you’re hoping to escape the €.

Of all the cities I’ve explored in Europe, St. Petersburg was one of my favorites, and boy did it not disappoint. After studying Russian history at the university, I decided to see the legacy of Peter the Great – both in the introduction of Eastern Europe to Western culture and traditions, as well as architecture, art and visiting the summer residence to see the monarchy. gardens in all their playful glory.

Combining a range of architecture (mostly Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque), this city is a world unto itself. Expect some magical encounters with sadistic shops selling figurines as mysterious as you might encounter them on the street. It’s a fun city to explore!

Krakow is a city that many of us want to visit – not only because of its beauty and charm, but also because of the dark past of Auschwitz and Birkenau, which allows visitors to pay respect, pause and learn the details of the Holocaust. The city itself is vibrant and full of students, which gives it a unique appeal to young travelers who want to mingle with the locals and enjoy all the city has to offer.
Located on the direct train route between Vienna and Budapest, Bratislava is another great city to stop by for a day or two, especially if you’re looking for something a little offbeat and away from the crowds.
Brasov is one of the most visited cities in Romania due to its convenient location as a gateway to the country’s most famous castles: Bran Castle (also known as Dracula’s Castle) and Peles Castle. The city itself is worth a day or two to explore, although you can happily hang out on an Air BnB balcony for a few days to enjoy the slow pace, as your dollar should stretch even longer when converted to Romanian lei.
Poland’s capital has a troubled past, but continued efforts to preserve the city’s Old Town in all its glory make it one of the most beautiful cities in Eastern Europe – a title often (but very deservedly!) left in zlotys and making it one. of the most affordable countries to visit in Europe, allowing you to spend a little more and stretch your dollar even further.

Serbia’s capital has a way of winning hearts, especially in the warmer months, when diners eat lunch and dinner outside, on quiet evenings when most of the city’s residents are out of the surrounding community activities. The city is also one of the most affordable cities to visit on the list, and therefore a great place to stop for a while and enjoy life like a local (Australians: also note that Serbia is not included in your 90-day Schengen visa! )
Looking east, Lviv is a short drive from the Polish border and is the seventh largest city in Ukraine, making it the perfect size to explore for a few days. The building itself is a marvel, with influences from nearby Poland, Austro-Hungarian heritage and a unique blend of Eastern, Central and Western European styles.
Romania is one of the cheapest European countries to visit and is home to some of the most beautiful places in the world. Impressive mountains, valleys and castles await and Sibiu is one of the best cities to explore the surrounding area. Located in the Transylvania region, Sibiu is one of the gateways to the neighboring region. Make sure you don’t miss Bran Castle (also known as Dracula’s Castle) and Peles Castle (location of the last movie).
The capital of Russia in real life is as interesting as you can imagine or let your mind create. Visiting the historical sites, churches and the Kremlin requires at least four days to experience it. Even if you live in the middle of nowhere, be sure to go underground in the Moscow metro stations, as they are considered among the most luxurious and opulent in the world.

As our regular readers already know, Cesky Krumlov is a WOW favorite and one of the most beautiful small towns in all of Europe. Just a few hours by bus south of Prague, there’s really no way to visit the Czech Republic without stopping in “Krumlov,” as it’s known to the locals.
Another Polish favorite is Wroclaw – the largest city in Western Europe and easily accessible via Germany if you head East from there. The town is perfectly postal, with well-equipped and well-equipped houses, and it is no wonder that it has earned its place as one of the best stations in Poland.
If you haven’t had enough of Poland, go to the port city of Gdansk on the Baltic coast. The old town was rebuilt after World War II but managed to retain its old world charm and beauty.
