The project was developed by Hilton Hotels Corporation, Rockefeller Group and Uris Buildings Corporation. The original architect was Morris Lapidus and he proposed a curved Fontainebleau hotel-style building. However, Lapidus had to pull back as he was also planning a rival hotel, the Americana of New York, a block away.
William B. Tabler was called in to complete the project and designed it with tiles. It opened on June 26, 1963 as the New York Hilton and offered 2,153 rooms, making it the largest in the city.

In June 1972, Elvis Presley was here, performing four sold-out concerts at the nearby Madison Square Garden. Before the first show, he held a press conference in the Mercury Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel.
Martin Cooper publicly made the world’s first hand-held cell phone call on April 3, 1973, when he called Joel S. Gel at the New York Hilton with a two-pound Motorola DynaTAC phone. Cooper, the inventor of Motorola, called his rival at Bell Labs and told him about the invitation. A cell phone base station was located next door at 1345 Avue of the Americas.

The hotel is home to several award ceremonies, including the International Emmy Awards presented by the International Academy. Each spring, the hotel is home to the Inner Circle Show, an annual charity dinner hosted by New York City journalists who poke fun at city, state and national politics and events. For over 50 years, the New York Hilton has been committed to providing exemplary event service. Midtown has all the space and amenities to host New York’s smallest gatherings and largest conventions. Our hotel has the largest freestanding event space in Manhattan and three exhibit halls that can easily accommodate over 200 booths. Additionally, we have special agreements with local properties that allow us to accommodate over 5,000 attendees without the need for a convention center.
In July 2010, I attended a week-long contract negotiation at the Hilton Times Square. Space: One thing to note about the Hilton is its available space. There are so many rooms to choose from. The Hilton can accommodate almost any size of meeting you can think of. The smaller rooms were especially useful for keeping smaller Caucasians in a smaller group. Food: In my opinion, one of the standout features of the Hilton was the quality and taste of its menu. The food was exceptional. I attended meetings there for over a week and had no complaints. I have attended meetings at other hotels in New York City and their food was not as good. Service: The service was professional and always responsive. Helped us plan and organize meetings to make sure all our needs were met. The rooms were kept clean at all times. The support staff were professional and friendly at all times. One of the highlights of our stay at the Hilton was the fact that they proudly brew Starbucks coffee. While this might not be a big deal to some people, I definitely felt it was a great convenience. Most hotels just make plain old coffee, not the Hilton! The ONLY negative about the Hilton Times Square is the price. It is very expensive to hold a meeting here. But it’s not surprising because it is New York after all AND the location is right in the middle of Times Square. In the end, you definitely get what you pay for. I highly recommend the Hilton for your next business meeting in New York.

The Manhattan Hilton Hotel was the perfect place to have a sophisticated out-of-town rendezvous experience! The experience of organizing a large meeting in a beautiful ballroom among your colleagues at a work-related conference is very unique. There were comfortable seats and the temperature in the room was comfortably regulated. The concierge and transportation desk had excellent staff available at all times to answer any questions regarding the hotel and accommodations. There was no problem with the hotel providing transportation to locations throughout Manhattan between meetings. Transportation included calling staff cabs or ordering a limousine service. Meeting at the Hilton Hotel for a weekend meeting had some advantages. Room rates were reasonable with group rates and visitors could use the fitness center between meetings. The windows offer views of the noise of the city that never sleeps. Accommodation options for the conference included use of a business center, clean and elegant restrooms, and use of in-house Wi-Fi. The food prepared for this meeting was delicious. The wait staff was ready to serve. The menu had options to suit even the pickiest of tastes. The dinnerware was fine and there was enough to eat with each portion. The drink selection was excellent. New York style spirits, like the famous Cosmopolitan, could be ordered and prepared to perfection. The people of New York were diverse and friendly, and the staff and accommodations at the Manhattan Hilton Hotel were excellent!

I recently attended a 1-day conference held at the Hilton New York, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY. The theme of the conference was the Amazon Web Services User Summit. I attended another conference at the Javits Center and found the location much more convenient since the Javits Center does not have easily accessible subway lines, although construction is underway to extend one line into the area. The Hilton was accessible from major subway lines (my hotel was next to Penn Station) and wasn’t overrun with tourists (which was a relief from the Times Square atmosphere). This part of NY seemed to be mostly business professional. The Hilton had a variety of meeting rooms and
