Tokyo will always be one of our favorite cities in the world. But why is it so great for solo travelers? Nowhere in the world is Tokyo as big and exciting, yet humble, friendly and good-natured. It’s impossible not to love a city like Melbourne. With its cafe culture, the best brunches in the world (if you ask me), social outdoor dining and even a beach not too far from the city, Melbourne has such vibrancy. Being a social city, Melbourne is perfect for solo travelers who want to meet other travelers, interact with locals and become a part of the city almost overnight.

When to go: Summer is when the city really comes alive, especially in January when the Australian Open comes to town. However, if you prefer to avoid the crowds and high season prices, head to Melbourne in March or April to enjoy the city before winter sets in.
I’ve been to Vancouver a few times now and it never gets old no matter how many times I visit Vancouver. Vancouver is a young and youthful city, making it a great choice for travelers in their 20s and 30s who want to mingle with the locals. Vancouver is also home to many expats, with many Australians working year-round at nearby Whistler ski resorts.
As for activities, downtown Vancouver can be explored in a few days. As the city is more compact than other cities (like Toronto), it’s easy enough to walk around. When I first visited Amsterdam, I traveled alone in Europe. It wasn’t my first time to Europe, but it was my first time to Holland. From the very first trip, I was hooked! I’ve been back to Amsterdam twice since then and it still feels like the most romantic and charming city in all of Europe.

Paris is now and forever my favorite city in the world. Now I know this is a big call, but I’m going to go ahead and stick with it! I just love this city so much. I have been alone in Paris most of the time. And no matter how many times I visit, I never get tired of it!
There are many ways to enjoy Paris on your own. Start with a visit to the Eiffel Tower at sunset, complete with a bottle of bubbly and a box of macarons to set the scene. And if you fancy turning your shell upside down, pick up a Shakespeare & Co book and park by the Seine. Finally, on Sundays there is nowhere to be but Le Marais. Work all day at the many cafes and patisseries and dine at L’as Du Falafel before heading out. I have dreams about these pita sandwiches!

Hong Kong was the first city I traveled to and later the first city I visited alone. I was only twenty years old at the time and on my way from Australia to Europe I stopped in Hong Kong, a city I already felt comfortable visiting.
I’ve been back a few times since then on my own – and it’s safe to say I still love the city. As one of the most developed cities in Asia, Hong Kong is a mecca of skyscrapers, high-end dining and fun night clubs in Lan Kwai Fong. There is always something new to discover as restaurants, bars and cafes are always buzzing in this urban metropolis.
But what makes Hong Kong a great destination for solo travelers is the city’s simplicity. Public transport is perhaps the best in the world – cheap, efficient, clean and with plenty of stops on the MTR. It’s also a lively city with plenty of activities for visitors, from a tram ride up Victoria Peak to a day trip to Lantau Island to see the Big Buddha.
When to go: October to December is the best time of year to visit Hong Kong. This way, you will avoid the monsoon season and get better room rates.

There is only one reason not to visit Copenhagen as a solo traveler and that is the cost of the city. It has a reputation as one of the most expensive cities in Europe, but luckily hostels are plentiful and incredibly safe and clean. Apart from that, there are good reasons to visit Copenhagen! Walking around the city is easy, people mostly keep to themselves and the city is wonderful to visit.
