After more than a decade as a frugal nomad, I’ve had the privilege of visiting dozens of budget-friendly countries that make travel as inexpensive as possible.

Top Cheapest Destinations To Travel After The End Of The Pandemic

These destinations offer affordable accommodation, inexpensive food, and plenty of activities and excursions that you can enjoy.

Thailand is where it all started for me, so it holds a special place in my heart. So I quit my job and decided to travel the world. I stood there. I loved it there. Thailand is amazing.

With a decades-long tourism footprint, Thailand is the heart of backpacking in Southeast Asia, and thanks to cheap hotels and budget street food (which can be found for as little as $1 USD), you can earn anywhere from $25-35 USD a day. !), local buses and many cheap and free attractions. If you spend all your time on the islands and expensive accommodations, expect to pay around US$60 per day. However, when it comes to price, Thailand is still one of the most bargain destinations in the world and should not be missed!

Cheap Places To Travel (that Are Perfect For Budget Travelers)

Do you want to visit ancient ruins, hike in the jungle, go surfing, and eat delicious food with less tourists? Visit small countries in Central America – think El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala. Here you can find most budget hotels for around $15-30 USD per night, food for less than $5, most bus rides for the same price, and beer for less than a dollar.

Belize, Panama, and Costa Rica are expensive destinations by local standards (but still affordable). If you go to these Central American countries, you can earn 40-50 USD a day as a backpacker, or you can live a lot on 100 USD a day. Your money goes a long way in this part of the world. With so many countries to choose from, it’s easy to get around and see a lot without breaking the bank.

While you could include all of Southeast Asia on this list, Cambodia is one of my favorite countries in the region—it’s affordable, beautiful, and the locals are incredibly hospitable. You can get a private, air-conditioned room for $25, street food for US$2-5, and transport around the country for US$20-25. If you’re spending around $50 a day, you’re living large.

Cambodia is cheaper than popular Thailand, but beautiful and full of the best people in the world. Plus, it’s home to the incredible Angkor Wat (which is expensive to visit, but well worth the cost!).

Best Travel Jobs To Make Money Traveling (they Really Exist!)

Located in the south-east of Europe, the Balkans is the cheapest region in Europe. Covering several countries, many of which see very few tourists, this is an off-the-radar region that is very affordable and offers great value. While places like Dubrovnik see an influx of tourists (thanks to the cruise ships that stop there), most of the region is ready for adventure. It has cheap wine, great hiking and nature, amazing beaches, delicious food and wild nightlife. It’s Europe’s best-kept secret.

You can get paid up to US$30 a day for a fraction of what you pay in Western Europe. $25 for a week of food and about $2 for beer.

Although the area was once known to be dangerous, the situation has improved significantly over the past decade. Backpacking trails thrive here and tourism is booming. This is the least explored area in Europe, but get there soon before the crowds arrive and the prices skyrocket.

China has attracted travelers since Marco Polo walked the Silk Road in 1275. Although China’s days as a cheap country are largely over, the country remains a budget destination and one of the cheapest countries in Asia, but a warning is in order. You need to get out of the big cities. Of course, cities are still a bargain. Hostels cost less than US$20, meals are US$2-5 per meal, and local transportation in cities is less than US$.

A Georgia destination has everything I need: cheap, delicious food and wine, great hiking and mountain scenery, and not too many tourists. I loved it immediately and wish I had gone sooner (when I did I extended my stay because I loved it so much!).

Located in the Caucasus, Georgia has been on a cultural crossroads for centuries, but it’s not as well known. Tbilisi is a city brimming with activity, while the rest of the country offers a rugged, off-road experience for adventurous adventurers.

With budget travelers spending $25-30 per day, you won’t get anything here either. A beer costs about $2 USD, a week’s worth of food costs about $25-30 USD, and most museums and historical sites are only $2-3 USD.

It may feel off the beaten track, but Georgia is one of the next big backpacking hubs. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Not all euro countries are created equal, but Portugal is one of the bargains in the region and one of my favorites. I fell in love the first time I came home. If you backpack on a budget, you can earn $50-$60 per day.

Although great in summer, if you’re looking for a cheap place to spend winter in Europe, Portugal is one of your best options.

Spent a lot of time there. And I was very surprised. Mexico City is a foodie’s paradise, Oaxaca has tons of charm (and a never-ending flow of mezcal!), and the Yucatan is perfect for road trips and cenote exploration. Being so close to the US, it’s not only cheaper (beer alone 1-2 USD, food around 25 USD for the week, you can make less than 50 USD a day here), but it’s cheap. – Double win!
